I always feel like I've stepped into the book Charlotte's Web when I go to the fair. Growing up I never had an experience like it until we moved here. Walking through the animal exhibits, eating all the yummy fair food, sights, sounds, the book comes back to me.
We were almost trampled by pigs. Ok, so not exactly trampled, but they did give Ashtyn a scare as they are bigger than her and surprised her when they were walking around out of their cages on the way to the judging ring. Heard the turkeys actually gobble, showed them the difference between sheep and goats, investigated llamas, etc. They kids just ate it all up.
The kids managed to get a GIANT corn dog and a jumbo corn dog for their lunch (I really have never seen such a huge corn dog as the giant one!), they followed that with mini donuts, an elephant ear (another item I had never heard of until I got to experience the fair, mmm. . . I really was missing something there), and freshly sliced and cooked potato chips. I was surprised that they didn't have a massive stomach ache! But they just loved it all and were sad when we cut them off and didn't get them caramel corn or cotton candy.
The highlight of the day was when they got to go on the pony ride. They were so excited, especially Nicole. She just glowed. Her brothers were very happy with it too. The whole way home Nicole kept asking to go back and ride the ponies again. Then when we got home she asked Daddy if she could have a pony. Even tucking her into bed this evening she was asking if we could go see and ride the ponies again tomorrow. What is it about ponies/horses to little girls?
