Best Buddies

My two boys are definately one of those best of friends, worst of enemies type of relationship. But regardless of which they are at any given minute, they are always together. With being in the middle of summer vacation they have become especially dependent upon the other.

Well today Skye had a friend over to play for the afternoon. Isaac was equally excited to have someone new in the house to play with and just couldn't wait for the friend to arrive. His hopes were fairly quickly dashed when the school friend of Skye's almost completely ignored Isaac (not in meanness, but just not noticing him). Isaac quickly realized that this wasn't going to be a three musketeers type of afternoon and spent most of the rest of the afternoon trying to figure out where he fit in as it wasn't his normal spot to be in. I could tell that it was hard for him to not have the other two jump up in excitement at his choice of where to go and what to play next. He tried to entice them with every option that he thought would be sure to please. . . "lets go swimming now!", "who wants to play in the treehouse?", . . . It broke my heart as I watched his attempts and then when he'd come defeated to me asking when the friend was going back home. They did play with Isaac some during the afternoon, but Isaac usually ended up leaving them as he discovered he was given the token bad guy they were fighting against spot or some such thing that he didn't get excited about for long.
It was with great relief that Isaac chased around with his big brother this evening once the friend had returned home. All was right in his world once again. . .

Oh my, it is so hard on the younger ones! I know exactly what you mean. When Emma's friend from next door comes over she (the friend) doesn't want Nathan hanging around them because he's a boy. It breaks my heart, too, because Nathan talks about this little girl like she's one of his friends, too. Soon enough they will have their own friends, but this time is hard on them. :(
