Blueberries, Mosquitos, and summer

This week has been filled with summer activities. The weather is turning hot now, so the pool is becoming a daily must (I must say I am so thankful for that pool, and so I can't really complain about heat anymore. The pergola is almost finished. Well, the structure is finished, I'm just still sewing the awning for it. It will be welcomed shade for the yard.

Tuesday we did the kid's favorite summer activity, we went blueberry picking. They usually start asking in January when the blueberries will be ready to pick. So this was the first week that the blueberry farms were open for picking, so of course we headed out. In about 45 minutes we picked over a gallon of blueberries between the 5 of us. And that is only counting the ones that actually made it into the pail. The kids had a great time, and we have been gorging on blueberries since then. Blueberries on our cereal, blueberry waffles, blueberry muffins, just plain blueberries. . . any other ideas on how to use them?

The only downside of picking blueberries was that Isaac inadvertently got 2 mosquito bites. Now for most of us that would just be a nuisance, but for Isaac it turns into a big ordeal. The one on his forehead swelled up so bad that it looked like he was a rhino. The one on his arm was even worse, it was so huge with swelling that it looked like a Popeye arm, except that it was deep red all over, then it developed a large blister on it at the site of the actual bite. I've never seen reactions to mosquito bites like he has. Unfortunately it seems like each time he gets bitten the reaction gets worse. Poor Guy! After 2 days of solid benadryl the swelling is finally starting to go down. Hopefully we'll be able to keep the mosquitoes away from him the rest of the summer.

The saddest news of the week is that school starts in less than a month now for Skye. He'll be a big second grader, and is excited about that. I'd be happy if summer just continued. I'm in no hurry for the schedule and business of the school year to return. . .

Oh YUM! I love blueberries. You could make blueberry syrup, blueberry milkshakes, blueberry smoothies, sundaes w/blueberries. The possibilities are endless! :) So sorry about Isaac's bites. I hope they aren't bothering him too badly! Yeah, can you believe how fast summer goes? I, for one, am ready! :)
