I spent a wonderful day at school with Skye yesterday. The teachers had planned a full day with our kids for the 1st grade parents day. Skye was so proud to show off his classroom and school and have me there with him.
We started off the day with a trip to the bowling alley. Although there were a couple tears from Skye at first when he got a couple of gutter balls (the lanes with bumpers were all filled) he quickly got the hang of it and then was jumping up and down with excitement when he'd knock down a single pin or more. He played the game with 4 of his good friends while the 4 parents of those kids played on the adjacent lane. I got a wonderful score of 70! WooHoo! 80) Surprisingly that was the second highest score from us parents.
After bowling we headed back to the school for a picnic lunch and recess. The kids ate quickly and then had fun chasing a tackling the dads that had come for the day while us moms cringed and just hoped that no one was going to get hurt.
Then we went and made memory stones together out of clay, created a summer journal, and completed an entry into their first grade scrapbooks together. I can't wait to see the finished scrapbook from Skye's year. I saw if briefly mid-year and know that it is filled with pictures from his year, thoughts, ideas, and activities from the classroom. There are at least 5-6 pictures for each month of the school year. I can't wait to read through it slowly and enjoy it with him.
Then we had a little more recess time before the ice cream social to cap off the day. Skye had such a wonderful time. I just enjoyed watching him with his classmates and sharing in his day with him. It was nice to get to meet and chat with some of the parents as well.
I hope that they'll have parents day in 2nd grade as well!
