We are trying a new Christmas tradition this year. . . the Jesse Tree. Now I had never heard of this until last year so if you haven't don't feel left out. I'm really excited to try it with the kids this year. Basically there is a Bible story/scripture reading for each day of December and then a corresponding ornament that you can hang on your Jesse Tree (which is supposed to be simple twig style tree, and I took that idea to literally be a bunch of twigs when I put ours together). Each day's story is picked in order to show (starting at the beginning) why Christ's birth is important. We've always done the advent stuff, recreating the nativity story, etc., so I'm excited to do it different this year and show my kids why it was such a huge thing that God sent His son to be born as a baby.
If you are interested in joining us on this Christmas quest there are a multitude of websites with more information on it. Some have printer ready ornaments to make it easy, others have colorable ones for those that want to involve the kids further, and others have patterns to make beautiful wood ones that can be used year after year. So happy browsing (just type in Jesse tree on a google search). Here are a couple sites that I liked for it.

We are already a couple days behind on our starting the tree--but I figure we can make it all up tonight, I'll let you know how it goes and post some pictures.

I remember when we went hunting for a tumbleweed to act as a Christmas tree. We found a huge one, tried to get it to stand up, and covered it with several clan of flocking. I was just barely expecting. It scared me so much that evening because I had cramping all night. It must have been the fumes from the flocking. So, if you ever wonder what is wrong with my son, it is flocking fumes that are to blame. It actually was beautiful!
